David Yates

David Yates was born on October 8, 1963 in St. Helens, Merseyside, England. He is a famous director and producer who is well known for directing the final few Harry Potter films. Harry Potter and the deathly hallows received a BAFTA Children’s award in 2011. Alongside deathly hallows, order of the Phoenix received an award from the Academy of Science fiction, fantasy and horror films. Along side of directing the films he took part in cinematic imagery and received an award for all of the Harry Potter films. His work on the series brought him many major critical success along with many accolades. Early in his career he directed various short films and became a prolific television director. His credits include the thriller State of play which was out in 2003 for which he won the directors guild of Great Britain award for outstanding directorial achievement. Emma Watson who played Hermione in Harry Potter said that Yates likes to push his cast to physical and emotional extremes to create and emotion effect in films. Following the direction of the Harry potter films he continued the Harry Potter genre with the direction of fantastic beasts and where to find them and fantastic beasts: the crimes of Grindelwald. Fantastic beast in 2016 was the eighth highest grossing film drawing in $814 million at the box office. I admire David Yates because he is an exceptional director who has directed a few of my favourite Harry potter films. He is amazing at directing a story and keeping the audience engaged throughout the whole film. I think he is very inspirational for me and other people who aspire to be a film director due to his success and many accomplishments. Yates started his career of in 1988 when he made his first film When I was a girl. It was named the best short film at the San Francisco international film festival. From 1994 to 1995, Yates directed several episodes of the ITV The Bill.  Following that Yates directed his 5th short film Punch before making his feature film debut in1998 with the release of The Tichborne Claimant. Yates got into direction of Harry Potter when he was told by his agent that had had made the shortlist for the 5th film in the Harry Potter series.  Later on he was confirmed to direct Order of the Phoenix by Warner bros. After the release of order of Phoenix in 2007, the film was opened to positive reviews where he won the best director at the Empire Awards. He implemented his ability in emotion in the final film where by most viewers it was described as a thrilling chapter. Part 2 is the only Harry Potter film to pass the one billion mark during the theatrical run in 2011 where Yates was the director of the film. Following the film Yates won his second Empire Award for best director. Overall, I chose to write about David Yates because I admire his work and passion for the Harry Potter film and the entertainment he brings to the film industry.
